"Follow Me" 11 x 14 oil on birchwood by Casey Chalem Anderson

“Hydrangea, Sag Harbor” 11 x 14 oil on birchwood by Casey Chalem Anderson

All over the Hamptons this summer you see the hydrangea in full bloom. I’m lucky enough to have 3 bushes planted right in the front of my home where the shades of lavender and cobalt are infinite.  Each blossom is an expression of exquisite color.

The colors dazzle even under an overcast gray sky.  In this painting, I explored just a few variations of violet by layering the oil paint on the surface. There is a narrow depth of space implied by the transparent stripe that moves across. The pigments found in fine grade oil paint parallel the colors of the natural world so beautifully. I just love the chunks of colored space!

I hope you’ll have a chance to see my large abstract oil paintings at Romany Kramoris Gallery, 41 Main Street in Sag Harbor through July 7. All the paintings are inspired by the colors we experience everyday living by the beach.

(Just left of the American Hotel and open late on the weekend)

Until next time,

Casey
