Can you make out the Sag Harbor-North Haven Bridge in the far distance? In 2008 it was renamed the Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge in honor of the young man who gave his life while serving as a Marine in Iraq. Jordan was a classmate of my son’s who shockingly died as a hero way too young. I’ve almost always lived by the water (after all Manhattan is an island), and now it’s been 28 years of living in Bay Point-Sag Harbor, New York. I remember thinking I could be very happy here, a place where I could just walk around my neighborhood and see little snippets of the water everywhere.
I never expected this glorious view where a wide expanse of sky and sea shows off magnificent colors every day. Sometimes it takes a while to see and appreciate everything you have.
