Blast Against the Rocks

Blast Against the Rocks (photo)

In Malibu, California much of the shoreline is compressed between mountains and the wild energy of the sea. It’s quite a different sensation than what I feel walking on a beach at home in the Hamptons.  I feel a bit constricted on the West Coast as if I am squeezed between two major forces.  It is the opposite of the expansive space I feel on the East End where it is flat.

Large rocks tumble into the sea along the California shore. The raw energy crashing from a wave is made even more dramatic when it hits one of these boulders.  Foam flies up and you hear the boom of force.

Visually, the California boulders add an exciting new element for me. When the ocean is calm, the boulders sit submerged emphasizing the stillness.  When the waves are active, buy cheap synthroid online swirls of water engulf the rocks creating beautiful circular arabesque patterns as the tide pulls out.

Another notable visual difference is that in Malibu you are very often seeing the ocean from above as if you were a bird flying over it. It is beautiful, but to see the horizon line below my eye level was disorienting.

The flat land here in the Hamptons helps me to understand where I am in space.  I see what is near, the middle ground and then the far distance. When this procession of space is clear to me I feel grounded. I feel mentally and emotionally stable.

By brushing gorgeous combinations of oil color on the canvas, this anchored sensation is the feelng I aim to pass to others. So for now, my heart remains here in the Hamptons.

Happy Springtime!

Casey
