Geranium Leaves in a Vase pen and ink on Anthropolgie.com
My earliest memory of pen and ink was watching my mother draw her fashion illustrations. Her bold lines captured gesture and movement, and as a child, I was captivated. Later, I became fascinated by Matisse’s line drawings; their simplicity and ease stayed with me. But it was seeing the abstract painter Ellsworth Kelly’s drawings at the Met in 2012, that solidified my love for contour line drawings of nature’s plants. I’ve pored over the book from that exhibition.
Ever since then, inspired by the nature around me, I’ve pursued drawing plants and flowers in ink. I love to carefully consider the weight of negative space, so essential for a successful drawing.
