Infinite Sky at the Edge

Infinite Sky at the Edge  48 x 36 oil/canvas

After the whirlwind of Where Light Meets Water, a beautiful and successful show that brought many people together around the art and spirit of the North Sea, I came back to my studio. I saw the fallout: scattered brushes, paint rags, half-used tubes, labels, price sheets, and stacks of frames. The kind of creative chaos that tells the story of a show well done… but also nudged me, it’s time for a reset.

I needed to clear the space not only physically, but mentally as well. I couldn’t think about new paintings until the studio felt calm again. My wonderful hairstylist asked, “Do you have a house cleaner?” and I laughed. This wasn’t something I could outsource. It was a ritual I had to go through myself, putting things back in order, reconnecting with the space, and in a way, making room for the next wave of inspiration.

Two and a half hours later, the difference is real. The light feels brighter, my table is clear, and my palette is ready again. It’s incredible how clearing a space can also clear your head. I even found a half-completed painting I’d forgotten about, I jumped back in.

There’s something sacred about cleaning your own studio after a big moment. It’s a quiet way of saying: thank you for what just happened, and I’m ready for what comes next.
