Every August it happens. Summer starts to fade away in small increments as the light subtly changes We have all had a strange and extremely challenging Summer but still…..I want to hold on to the way my body feels at the ocean. I want to hold on to the pure exhilaration I feel when I get the nerve to plunge into a wave. It’s always worth the shock!
I’m in the midst of working on 3 paintings all the same size and from the same day so the colors are related. They capture the energy and movement of an incoming wave and use paint mixtures of ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, burnt sienna and lemon yellow that I’m currently in love with.
This time not only have I used my favorite brushes, but I’ve experimented with cotton rags (retired Hanes t-shirts, the best) to get some new effects. I love to paint on canvases that are as big as I am. The large size makes my whole body participate in a dance of urgency to get it down on the canvas. No surprise that I’m absolutely exhausted when I stop.

Or if you would like to see paintings in real life, I’ve been holding viewings right in my driveway of my Studio. It’s a way to hold on to the best part of summer.
All the best,
Casey
