From the small dock surrounded by sturdy wooden pilings at North Sea Harbor on Towd Point Road, a unique view of the salt marshes comes into focus. It’s a constantly changing scene, shaped by the light, time, and seasons—a view that never ceases to captivate me.
I always pay attention to the horizontal tidal pools winding through the marsh grasses. The amount of visible water changes with the tides, creating a dynamic pattern. Here, the blue waters stretch parallel to the marsh, emphasizing the flat, expansive landscape. Standing there, with your vision stretching out wide, you become the lone vertical element in the scene. As you gaze up, the vast sky fills your senses with a feeling of excitement and limitless space.
The large size of the vertical canvas measuring 4 by 3 feet allows me to capture the sensation of actually being there. Through harmony of color, I aim to convey the spirit and beauty of this place, embodying its essence.
A significant part of the canvas is dedicated to the sky, representing the overwhelming sensation of open space. The yellow grasses hint at the arrival of autumn, while the bright green of the closer grasses recalls the summer that just passed. The waters reflect both the recent season and the transition to the next.
I hope your shift into Autumn is a beautiful one,
Casey
