Here is the other painting that is included in Paton Miller’s East End Collected 5 at the Southampton Arts Center April 20-June 9. It has been interesting to come out about my passion for creating this series of Abstract Oil Paintings. Most people know my Seascape Paintings but abstract work is fascinating……and I’m finding my particular voice here.
As delighted as I can sometimes be with the results of recreating a familiar reality, I am relentlessly challenged to create a uniquely personal statement in paint. Abstraction calls to me. I’ve pushed it to the side and it returns nagging at me. It feels important, like a call to a battle that will certainly take special effort.
How to make this transition to abstraction in a deeply meaningful way? It must be the culmination of all I’ve learned through years of painting. In each effort I create on the canvas, I feel exposed but more importantly curious.
This Thursday evening the Southampton Art Center 25 Jobs Lane (formally the Parrish Museum location) will be open so please stop by. These evenings are always interesting and you can play ping-pong in the galleries! I plan to be there. (info below)

EEC5 “Hangout”

East End Collected5 continues to reflect Paton Miller’s vision of this area as an ideal environment for artists to create work. Through this exhibition, Miller celebrates these 32 new artists and marks Southampton Arts Center as a home where the East End arts scene can continue to thrive. A special new addition to this fifth year of EEC is East End Collected Junior with a select group of teen artists.
